Shanghai Puyan Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd.

Puyan Machinery customized a duty/standby rotary vane vacuum system for a hospital, using a split-type structure to overcome the challenge of moving equipment into an existing machine room. In hospital negative pressure system upgrades, whether equipment can smoothly enter an existing negative pressure machine room inside a building often becomes a key constraint on project progress. Recently, Shanghai Puyan Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd. successfully delivered a duty/standby rotary vane vacuum system to a hospital. Through a split-type structural design, it effectively solved the practical problem of limited entrance space to the negative pressure machine room, where a complete skid-mounted system could not be moved in.

Puyan duty/standby rotary vane vacuum system applied in a hospital negative pressure system

Project Background: Medical Negative Pressure System Upgrade Hampered by Machine Room Access Restrictions

The hospital's existing negative pressure system handles vacuum suction tasks for operating rooms, ICUs, negative pressure wards, and other areas. With the expansion of departments and the increase in equipment, the original vacuum supply capacity could no longer meet demand. The hospital decided to add a duty/standby vacuum system to improve system redundancy and operational reliability.

During the preliminary site survey, the Puyan Machinery technical team identified a key issue: the hospital's negative pressure machine room is located inside the building, with a narrow entrance passage and multiple door frames and corners to navigate. A conventional complete skid-mounted vacuum system is too large to pass through this passage. On-site assembly from loose components would involve a long installation period and complex piping connections, with limited site construction conditions. The customer explicitly requested that, while meeting the duty/standby function, the system structure be designed in a split-type configuration to ensure all components could smoothly pass through the machine room entrance and be installed within the limited space.

Puyan Solution: Two Puyan PV300 Rotary Vane Vacuum Pumps + PLC Control Panel, Split-Type Structure with Swivel Casters

In response to the hospital's special access conditions, the Puyan Machinery technical team customized the following solution:

  • Core vacuum source: Two Puyan PV300 rotary vane vacuum pumps in a duty/standby configuration. Each pump offers a pumping speed of 300 m³/h, an ultimate vacuum of 0.1 mbar, and a motor power of 7.5 kW. The pump features high-precision vanes and forced oil lubrication, providing smooth operation and low noise, suitable for the long-term continuous operation required by a hospital negative pressure system.
  • Control system: Puyan PLC control panel. Integrated with a programmable logic controller, it enables automatic duty/standby switching between the two vacuum pumps, automatic control based on upper and lower pressure limits, fault alarms, and real-time monitoring of operating status.
  • Split-type structural design: This is the core feature of this system. The two vacuum pumps and the PLC control panel each use independent steel structural frames, with swivel casters mounted at the bottom of each frame. After individual unit testing and program commissioning at the factory, the system is transported to the hospital in separate parts. When passing through the narrow entrance, each part is pushed into the machine room one by one, and the piping and cable connections are completed on site. This design not only ensures that the equipment can smoothly enter the room but also preserves the quality advantages of factory prefabrication.

Project Results: Smooth Entry and Stable Operation

Since the duty/standby vacuum system was installed and put into operation, the hospital has reported the following:

  • Smooth entry and installation: The split-type structure with swivel casters allowed all three independent components to pass through the narrow passage, and the installation period was significantly shorter than expected.
  • Stable negative pressure supply: The automatic duty/standby switching function ensures continuous vacuum suction in critical areas such as operating rooms and ICUs.
  • Reliable operation: The PV300 rotary vane pumps run smoothly, and the PLC control panel is easy to operate and was quickly mastered by both medical and logistics staff.
  • Convenient maintenance: The swivel caster design allows the equipment to be moved as needed during routine maintenance, facilitating inspection and servicing.

The hospital's logistics manager commented: "Our machine room entrance is too narrow. We asked several suppliers before, and they all said a complete skid-mounted system couldn't get in. Puyan's split-type design is very practical – push them in one by one and then assemble. The vacuum has been very stable, and the switching is automatic. It's worry-free."

Why Choose Puyan Machinery's Vacuum System?

Puyan Machinery specializes in vacuum pumps and custom vacuum systems. Our core strengths lie in on-demand customization (providing non-standard designs based on air volume, vacuum level, media, installation space, etc.), our own brand with reliable quality, and rapid response (providing solutions within 24 hours). This duty/standby vacuum system features a split-type structural design, making it suitable for renovation projects with restricted machine room entrances and narrow installation spaces. Besides hospital negative pressure systems, this series of systems is also widely used in semiconductor, lithium battery vacuum drying, food and pharmaceutical packaging, electronic component handling, shipbuilding, and other industries. If your factory or institution faces issues such as insufficient vacuum, system instability, or limited installation space, please contact Puyan Machinery for a customized solution.
