Puyan customizes a duty/standby vacuum system for a servo composite hydraulic press manufacturer, with the entire unit configured to meet CE requirements to support export. In the field of composite molding equipment, the vacuum-assisted system of a servo hydraulic press directly affects product quality and the export compliance of the complete machine. Recently, Puyan Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd. delivered a duty/standby vacuum system to a servo composite hydraulic press manufacturer. The system uses two Puyan PV100 rotary vane vacuum pumps, equipped with a 1 m³ buffer tank and a Puyan control cabinet. The buffer tank, components, gauges, and valves are all configured for CE conformity according to the customer's export requirements.
Project Background: Dual Requirements of Composite Pressing Process and Export Compliance
The company is primarily engaged in the R&D and manufacturing of servo composite hydraulic presses. Its equipment is widely used in SMC/BMC molding and the forming of carbon fiber and fiberglass products, with some complete machines exported to the EU market.
During the composite pressing process, if air and resin volatiles in the mold cavity are not discharged promptly, defects such as voids and dry spots can easily form inside the product, affecting density and surface quality. Therefore, hydraulic presses typically require a dedicated vacuum system to evacuate the mold cavity before mold closing and during pressing. The requirements of such operating conditions for the vacuum system are: pumping speed matched to the mold cavity volume, stable vacuum level, and the ability to adapt to long-term continuous production cycles.
At the same time, because the complete machine is exported to the EU, the customer requires that the accompanying vacuum system and its auxiliary components all meet the relevant CE directive requirements. This requirement covers not only the vacuum pump itself but also the buffer tank, electrical components, pressure gauges, valves, and all other supporting parts, placing high demands on the supplier's selection capabilities and compliance experience.
Puyan Solution: Two PV100 Pumps + 1 m³ Buffer Tank + Puyan Control Cabinet, Full-System CE Configuration
After several discussions with the customer's equipment department, the Puyan technical team determined the following configuration based on the hydraulic press mold cavity volume, evacuation time requirements, and export compliance requirements:
- Core vacuum source: Two Puyan PV100 rotary vane vacuum pumps in a duty/standby configuration. Each pump has a pumping speed of 100 m³/h, an ultimate vacuum of 0.1 mbar, and a motor power of 2.2 kW. Each pump features a high-precision vane structure and forced oil lubrication, providing smooth operation and low noise, and can meet the vacuum supply requirements under the continuous production cycle of the hydraulic press. The duty/standby design ensures that when one pump is under maintenance or fails, the standby pump can immediately take over, preventing the pressing process from stopping due to vacuum interruption.
- Buffering system: 1 m³ buffer tank. Used to smooth out vacuum fluctuations, maintain pressure stability under operating conditions with varying air demand such as mold opening and closing, and provide additional volume reserve for evacuation to shorten the evacuation response time.
- Control system: Puyan control cabinet. Integrates automatic duty/standby switching of the two vacuum pumps, upper and lower pressure limit control, and operating status monitoring. The operation interface is simple and convenient for daily use by hydraulic press operators.
- CE-compliant configuration: According to the customer's export requirements, the buffer tank, electrical components, pressure gauges, valves, and other parts of the entire system are selected and configured in accordance with relevant CE directives. The buffer tank is designed and documented according to relevant pressure equipment requirements; the electrical system uses CE-certified components, and the electrical design and wiring of the control cabinet are completed in accordance with the Low Voltage Directive and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive; instruments and valves are also selected from models that meet CE requirements. Corresponding technical documents and conformity documentation are provided with the system to support the customer's export certification of the complete machine.
The system is assembled, program-commissioned, and operation-tested at the factory before delivery as a complete unit. On-site connection of piping and power supply is all that is needed for commissioning.
Project Results: Stable Vacuum, Complete Compliance Documentation
After the duty/standby vacuum system was commissioned together with the customer's hydraulic press and put into production, the feedback was as follows:
- Stable vacuum supply: Under continuous pressing cycles, the mold cavity vacuum level remained within the specified process range, and void and dry-spot defects in products were effectively controlled.
- Reliable duty/standby operation: The automatic switching function reduced production interruptions caused by single-pump maintenance, improving overall equipment utilization.
- Smooth export certification: The CE documentation for the system and supporting components was complete, and the customer did not encounter additional corrective work related to the vacuum system during export certification of the complete machine.
- Convenient maintenance: The PV100 pump has a mature structure, with daily maintenance mainly consisting of oil changes and vane inspection, keeping maintenance workload manageable.
The customer's project manager commented: "Our machine is for export, and at first we were quite concerned about the certification documentation for the vacuum system.
